GetFoodTruckPOS does not process cards and takes 0% of your card sales. You keep the processor and reader you already use, and your card money goes from your processor to your bank as it does today. The POS records each card sale so your reports, cash count and tax all line up.
Before you start
- An active merchant account with a card processor in your country, and its card reader charged and paired to its own app or terminal.
- Your truck, register and menu set up in GetFoodTruckPOS.
- A data connection for the POS. Your reader also needs its own connection or its phone link to approve cards.
- Ask your processor two questions now, not during a rush: does the reader have an offline or store-and-forward mode, and what are its limits? That is a processor feature, not ours.
Steps
- Open Settings > Business settings > Payment and check Card is switched on as a payment method.
- If you take more than one kind of card payment, add Custom payment methods with clear names, for example “Card reader”, “Tap on phone”, “Card at event terminal”. This keeps them apart in reports.
- In Pakistan, add JazzCash, Easypaisa and Bank transfer as custom methods here too, so wallet payments are not lumped in with cash.
- Open POS, ring a test item and tap Card (or your custom card method).
- Take the payment on your processor’s reader or app for the exact same amount, including tax and any tip.
- When the reader shows approved, enter the last four digits or the approval code in the card fields on the POS if you want them for matching later. Then tap Finalize payment.
- For split payments, tap Multiple pay, enter the cash part and the card part separately, and run only the card part on the reader.
- For tips, add the tip to the sale before taking the card, so the POS total and the reader total match.
- Void the test sale on both sides: in the POS under Sales > List sales, and on your processor’s app.
Check it worked
- The test sale shows as Card in Sales > List sales.
- At close-out, the card total in your register report matches the batch total in your processor’s app for the same day.
- Card sales do not appear in expected cash, so your cash count stays clean.
Common problems
The reader declined but the POS shows paid
The sale was finalized before the reader approved. Edit or void the sale, then re-ring it once the card goes through. Train staff to wait for “approved” on the reader before tapping Finalize.
Card totals do not match the processor
Usually one of three things: a tip added on the reader but not in the POS, a sale run twice on the reader, or a card sale recorded as cash. Compare the processor’s transaction list with Sales > List sales filtered by Card and look for the odd one out.
Signal dropped in the middle of a rush
The POS needs a data connection, so it cannot ring sales while signal is gone. Switch to your backup SIM or pocket hotspot. If that fails, take cash, write sales on a pad, and enter them when signal returns. Whether the reader can keep taking cards depends on your processor’s offline mode, so ask them.
Can GetFoodTruckPOS run the card for me?
No. The reader and processor approve and settle cards. We record the payment method. That separation is why we charge no processing fee.
Apple Pay and Google Pay
Those are taken on your processor’s contactless reader like any tap card. Record them as Card, or as a custom method if you want them reported separately.
