Food truck POS for the UAE, in English and Arabic

GetFoodTruckPOS gives UAE food trucks a fast window POS on a phone or tablet, with 5% VAT built into your menu prices, receipts in English or Arabic, and card payments through the processor you already use. You see sales by truck, by staff member and by item, and close out each night with a cash count.

The food truck scene in UAE

The UAE truck scene is seasonal and event-driven. The cooler months, roughly October to April, bring beach evenings, outdoor markets, festival seasons and community events, while the hottest summer months push much of the trade into evenings, indoor venues and private bookings.

Trucks usually trade at permitted locations: dedicated food truck parks, venue partnerships, beachfront zones with a permit, and events run by organisers who handle part of the paperwork. That makes the event booking and the venue relationship as important as the menu.

Customers are international and pay mostly by card and tap, with cash still common. Menus often run in English and Arabic, and prices are expected to include VAT, so a POS that shows the VAT-inclusive price at the window and a proper VAT line on the receipt saves arguments.

How customers pay in UAE

  • Cards via your processorUse the card terminal or reader from your bank or payment provider and record the sale as Card. We take 0% of card sales.
  • Apple PayTaken on your provider's contactless terminal like any tap card. Very common at UAE events and beach spots.
  • CashCount your float in AED, record cash in and out, and close with a denomination count.
  • Custom methodsRecord bank transfers for catering, event organiser settlements or vouchers as their own methods.

Tax

The UAE charges VAT at 5%, administered by the Federal Tax Authority. Businesses above the mandatory registration threshold must register and show VAT on tax invoices, and consumer prices are normally displayed including VAT. Check the current threshold and invoicing rules with the Federal Tax Authority or your accountant.

How the software handles it

Set a 5% VAT rate, mark your menu prices as VAT-inclusive, and add your TRN so it prints on receipts. The board price is what the customer pays, with VAT shown inside it on the receipt. The tax report totals VAT collected by period and truck for your return. We apply and report VAT; filing stays with you or your accountant.

Permits

Food trucks in the UAE are licensed at emirate level. In Dubai that usually involves Dubai Municipality for food safety and the Department of Economy and Tourism for trade and event permits; Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have their own authorities. Rules, fees and approved locations change, so confirm current requirements with your emirate's authorities and your venue before you trade.

Signal

GetFoodTruckPOS needs a data connection to ring sales. Mobile data is strong in most of the UAE's cities, but big events can congest networks. Run on 4G or 5G, keep a second SIM on a different network, and test signal at the venue during setup. If signal fails mid-rush, take cash and enter those sales when it returns. Ask your card provider whether its terminal can work offline.

Food trucks in UAE: questions

Yes, if you set them that way, which is the usual UAE practice. Mark prices as VAT-inclusive and a board price of AED 25 rings up as AED 25, with the 5% VAT shown inside it on the receipt. Add your TRN under business settings so it prints too. The tax report totals VAT collected for your return, which you or your accountant file with the Federal Tax Authority.

Yes. The POS and receipts can run in Arabic with right-to-left layout, or in English, and you can edit any translated label to match how your menu is written. Many trucks keep staff screens in English and print receipts in English with Arabic item names. Support is available in English, Arabic and Urdu.

Use the terminal or reader from the bank or payment provider you already have, or any provider you choose. GetFoodTruckPOS records the card sale; your provider approves it and settles the money to your account. We do not process cards and take no cut of card sales. Ask your provider about fees, Apple Pay support and whether their terminal works offline before a big event.

It works anywhere you have a data connection. Big events can congest mobile networks at peak hours, so test signal during setup, keep a second SIM on a different network, and consider a pocket router. We do not have an offline mode. If signal fails, take cash and enter the sales when it returns. Check the organiser's own rules on payment systems too.

No permit is needed for the software itself, but the truck needs the right trade and food permits for your emirate and location. In Dubai that typically involves Dubai Municipality and the Department of Economy and Tourism; Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have their own authorities. Requirements change, so confirm with the authorities and your venue before trading.

Yes. UAE customers can reach us on WhatsApp as well as by email and the contact form, during UAE business hours. We answer within one business day, in English, Arabic or Urdu. For setup help, such as importing your menu or setting VAT, you can also request a menu import session through the contact page.

Yes, where you switch it on. Your online store builds itself from your menu and shows today's spot. Customers can order ahead and collect at the window. Many trucks turn it off at very busy events and keep it on at office and community spots where it smooths the lunch rush. Payment for order ahead depends on how you set it up with your provider.

Yes, on the Fleet plan. Each truck is its own location with its own register, menu and prices, and you see reports per truck and combined. VAT is federal, so the rate is the same everywhere in the UAE, but permits are per emirate. Your commissary or central kitchen can be a location too, for stock transfers to each truck.
