CASH + CARD

A cash and card POS that ends the night even.

Cash in the drawer, cards on the reader, wallets on the phone. One register keeps them apart so the count makes sense.

The cash drawer, from float to count

  1. Open the register with the float you start with, counted by note if you like.
  2. Sell. Cash sales show change due on screen.
  3. Cash in or out for a change run or a supplier paid from the till, with a note.
  4. Close by counting the drawer. The screen shows expected vs counted and any difference.

Step-by-step: open and close the register

Tips, done honestly

Tips can be added as a line on the order and are reported separately, or taken on your processor's reader through its tip prompt. Either way, the close-out shows tips apart from sales so you can share them out fairly.

Cash and card questions

Open the register at the start of service and enter the cash you put in the drawer as the float. The POS uses that number, plus cash sales and any cash in or out, to work out how much should be there at close. Use the same float amount every day so close-outs are easy to compare. Our /help/open-and-close-the-cash-register/ guide shows each step.

Yes. Split payments let one sale be paid partly in cash and partly by card, or across several cards for a group. Enter each part with its payment method and the POS tracks what is still owed. Every part shows correctly in your end-of-day report by payment method, so your cash count and your processor's card total both still match.

Yes. Enter the cash handed over and the POS shows the change to give back. That saves mental maths during a rush and cuts down on short-change mistakes. Every cash sale adds to the expected cash figure for your register, so at close you count the drawer and see straight away if anything is off. Keep small notes in the float for exact change.

Record it as a cash out on the register with a short reason, like 'ice run' or 'propane'. The expected cash total drops by that amount, so your close still balances. Cash added mid-shift, such as extra change from the bank, goes in as a cash in. For a full picture of costs, log the same spend as an expense so it shows on your profit report.

Yes, as custom payment methods. GetFoodTruckPOS works with JazzCash, Easypaisa, bank transfer or any other method you take by recording it as its own payment type. The money moves through that provider, not through us; we keep the record so it shows separately in your reports. That makes it easy to match your wallet or bank statement at the end of the day.

You can add a tip as a line on the sale, or use your card processor's tip prompt on the reader if it offers one. Cash tips in a jar can stay outside the POS, or you can record them if you split tips with staff. Recording tips as a line keeps them visible in your reports, so shared tips are easy to work out at close.

Yes. Plenty of trucks run cash only on day one or at events with poor signal on the card reader. The POS still records every sale, tracks the drawer against your float and gives you a full close-out. You still need a data connection to ring sales in the POS. If signal drops, keep taking cash, note the sales and enter them once you reconnect.

Yes. Suspended or draft sales let you hold an order, take the next customer and come back to it. That helps when someone wants to add a friend's order or run to the ATM. Parked sales do not count until they are paid, so they do not throw off your cash. Clear them before you close the register so nothing is left hanging.

Process the refund against the original sale and choose cash as the method. The expected cash in the drawer drops by the refund, so your close still balances, and the refund shows in your reports with the reason you enter. For card refunds, the refund itself happens through your processor, so record it in both places. Staff roles can limit who is allowed to refund.
