The fastest way to get a menu in is a spreadsheet import. One row per item, upload, done. For a menu under fifteen items, typing them in by hand under Products > Add product can be just as quick, so pick whichever feels lighter.
Whatever you add here is also what your online store shows. Items, prices, photos and stock flow through automatically, so a clean menu import pays off twice.
Before you start
- Your truck and register are set up. See Add your truck and register.
- Your current menu in any form: an old POS export, a spreadsheet, or a photo of the menu board you can type from.
- A spreadsheet app. Google Sheets, Excel or Numbers all work, as long as you can save as CSV.
- Tax set up for your country, so imported prices get the right tax. If not, do Set up taxes by country first.
- Photos are optional at this stage. You can add them after the import.
Steps
- Open Products > Import products and tap Download template. Open it in your spreadsheet app.
- Fill one row per menu item. The columns that matter most are Product name, Category, Selling price and Unit (use “piece” or “each” for most food). Leave columns you do not need empty.
- Use the same spelling for each category every time. “Tacos” and “Taco” become two buttons on your quick menu.
- For items sold in sizes, such as small and large drinks, put them on one row and mark the product type as variable, or add the item once now and set up sizes afterwards in Set up modifiers and sold out. The second route is easier for most trucks.
- If you track stock on an item, fill Opening stock and choose the truck location. Leave it blank for made-to-order food you do not count.
- Save the file as CSV (comma separated). Keep the original spreadsheet too, in case you need to fix something.
- Back in Products > Import products, tap Choose file, select the CSV and tap Submit.
- If the import shows errors, it will name the row. Fix that row in your spreadsheet, save as CSV again and re-upload.
- Open Products > List products and tap any item to add a photo. Square photos taken in daylight look best on the online store and on the POS buttons.
- Open POS and check that your categories appear as quick menu buttons with the right items under each.
Check it worked
- Products > List products shows every item with the right price.
- The POS quick menu shows your categories in a sensible order. Reorder them under Products > Categories if needed.
- Your online store link (under Online store in the menu) shows the same items and prices.
- A test sale of one item adds the correct tax for your country.
Common problems
The upload says “invalid file”
The file is probably saved as XLSX, not CSV, or your spreadsheet app added extra columns. Re-download the template, paste your data into it, and save as CSV again.
Prices came in wrong by a factor of 100 or 1,000
Your spreadsheet may be using a comma as the decimal separator, which happens with some regional settings. Set the price column to plain numbers with a dot for decimals, or whole numbers if your currency does not use decimals.
Prices include tax but tax is added on top
Check how the tax is set on the product: inclusive or exclusive. UAE trucks usually price with VAT included; US trucks usually add sales tax on top. Fix it per product, or bulk edit under Products > List products.
Duplicate items after a second import
Importing the same file twice creates two copies. Delete the duplicates from Products > List products using the bulk select, or contact support if there are many.
My menu is only on a photo or a PDF
Type it into the template by hand, or send it to the onboarding team through the contact page and ask for menu import help. We will tell you what format we need.
